ENCAUSTIC

Encaustic Paintings

Encaustic is beeswax-based paint with pine resin added. The world’s oldest artistic medium, it was developed by the Greeks to caulk their sea vessels. They often added brightly colored decorations to their war ships. The paintings in this series combine several of my favorite materials, graphite, ink, German etching paper attached to a cradled birch panel and encaustic poured over the top and incised to reveal the drawing beneath.
