My interest lies in mixed media, no matter the piece or pieces I’m working on. It’s not unusual for me to combine 4 or 5 materials, e.g. some traditional art materials such as paints and mark-making materials with non-traditional materials or found objects.
Mixed media allows me to layer materials. I like to create an underpainting or mark-making, then layer other materials over it so that it still be seen but is in the background. I seek to create tension between the foreground and the background in my work, adding an element of mystery between the easily seen and the mostly hidden.
